Pellets used in heating and energy production are one of the renewable energy sources. Pellets, produced by turning many different types of waste into granules of certain sizes by going through various pressure and heat treatments, vary greatly in terms of energy efficiency.
Pellet produced from pine tree (Pinus Sylvestris) is considered one of the most efficient pellet types, surpassing other pellet types in terms of thermal energy efficiency.
On the other hand, since the raw material cost of pellets produced from pine tree (Pinus Sylvestris) is higher than other pellet types, their sales prices are also higher. For this reason, in order to reduce raw material costs, wastes of other cheap (low-calorie) trees and products such as chipboard and MDF, which contain various harmful chemicals, are mixed into pine pellets.
Additionally, transportation costs play a big role in pricing the pellets produced. As the distance of the pellet production facility to the place of transportation increases, purchasing costs naturally increase significantly. Often, due to the remoteness of the production facility, the cost of transportation even exceeds the purchase price of the pellets from the factory.
